Title : Fourteen Jews killed after Arabs mine Jewish convoy

Text : Fourteen Jews were killed and forty five wounded when Arabs mined a Jewish convoy on the Hebron roed, three miles south of Bethlehem on Easter Sunday.
The convoy was returning to Jerusalem from a Jewish settlement near Hebron and after the Arabs had allowed the convoy to enter a mine field, they blocked the road in front and behind them. They detonated the mines and the explosions were followed by heavy concentrated Arab fire from the hills. They died like rats in a trap.
Many Jews escaped the blast and seventy left their armoured car to take up a position in a house near the side of the road.
Four Jewish planes flew over the scene, several bombs were dropped on the Arabs who claim that they shot down one airecraft.
The British Army arrived in the area early on Easter Monday after breaking through seventeen road blocks. They were however not allowed to go to the rescue of the Jews and were forced to spend the entire day about half a mile from the actual fighting.
On Easter Monday night the British Army reported that a truce had been arranged with the Arabs to allow the forty five wounded and the remainder of the 90 persons convoy to be escorted safely back to Jerusalem... and so Easter in Jerusalem ended.
